Hello everyone, on the fourteenth chapter of the Techy Sum, volume 1, here’s the news that you’ve been looking for:

📱Tech news💻:

- If you’re a U.S. citizen that are currently learning on any higher institution, please be aware (in a statement by F.B.I. (Federal Bureau Investigation)) of student debt forgiveness scam, which scammer take advantage to any student that are actually eligible for that. These fake websites will likely attempt to trick people into giving away personal information or bilk them with fake service fees. Fraudsters may also directly contact people by email, phone, text, and other forms of electronic communication in order to lure them to these fraudulent websites or otherwise conduct scams related to student debt forgiveness.

- HotHardware gives some PSA (public service announcement), warned that just like every other item on the net, never ever buy any item with inflated, scalper price, at any cost. Many of the sold out Intel Arc A750 & A770 ends up in the hand of scalper, that they willing to sell it at an insane price tag compared to MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) or RRP (Recommended Retail Price). A750 LE (Limited Edition; actually not, just sound cooler) priced at $289 were inflated by scalper to around $430 on average, and A770 LE priced at $349 were inflated by scalper to around $760-$780, based on pricing on Ebay.

- A new smart, high-tech buoy owned by The Blue BOAT (Buoy Oceanographic Alert Technology) Initiative, a project sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of the Environment, use software called Listening to the Deep Ocean (LIDO) to monitor sounds for marine passersby. When an animal is detected, LIDO uses artificial intelligence to identify the animal’s type and exact location before sending a signal to an early warning station on land. The station then alerts nearby vessels to the animal’s presence. This helps vessel operators avoid vessel strikes, an all-too-common phenomenon that often occurs because animals aren’t visible from the surface (or because they become visible a bit too late).

- [Rumor/Leak(?)] Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 design were teased in a 3D render (allegedly based on 99% accurate photographed, not-yet-published GPU card) in a new video by Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID), which might based slightly cut-down of AD104 GPU chip. RTX 4070 Ti might also debut at some point in the future, possibly to replace it with the cancelled RTX 4080 12GB, as Nvidia might not find any legit reasoning to sell it for $900, which will also compete it with xx70 series.

- Intel Arc Graphics Driver 31.0.101.3491 Beta driver is here. Not so much were said in an update, but might worth for you to download and install it if you’re an Intel Arc user.

- Intel showcased their prototype Thunderbolt 4 USB 2.0 technology, which were able to deliver 80 gigabits per second (Gbps) of bi-directional bandwidth and enable up to 120 Gbps for the video output display. In addition, for monitors with extremely high resolutions and refresh rates, the standard can be used in an asymmetric mode, with a downstream of 120Gbit/s and an upstream of 40Gbit/s bidirectional instead of 80Gbit/s. Also, the four PCIe lanes have been upgraded from PCIe 3.0 to PCIe 4.0, while maintaining compatibility with existing passive Thunderbolt cables up to 1 meter in length.

- 3DMark now features DLSS 3 support for game benchmarking test, while Basemark’s GPUScore Sacred Path launched today, which were divided by two categories: GPUScore: The Expedition for smartphones, and GPUScore: Relic of Life for high-end gaming PCs.

- Meta, a tech company known for Oculus VR headset, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, today announced its next-generation AI platform, Grand Teton, including NVIDIA’s collaboration on design, at the 2022 OCP Global Summit, an Open Compute Project conference. It was named after the 13,000-foot mountain that crowns one of Wyoming’s two national parks, and based on Nvidia’s Hopper H100 architecture, which can delivers two times the network bandwidth and four times the bandwidth between host processors and GPU accelerators compared to Meta’s prior Zion system. It will be use to train the AI models, which are used extensively across Facebook for services such as news feed, content recommendations and hate-speech identification, among many other applications.

- According to TrendForce’s latest research, the annual growth rate of server shipments in 2023 is estimated to be only 3.7%, which is lower than 5.1% in 2022, while the server DRAM prices were expected to go even lower by 2023, which Q4 2022 will drop by 15%-20%. Average server DRAM content will increase to 12% in 2023, while the annual growth rate of average enterprise SSD content is estimated to increase to 26.4% in 2023.

- Global smartphone market dipped 9% in Q3 2022, third quarters consecutively, as consumers tighten budgets due to smartphone price hike and global economic inflation and now heading toward recession by 2023, according to Canalys analyst, Amber Liu.

- TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company)’s Chairman, Mark Liu, speaking at the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association’s annual convention, is once again warning that both them and the semiconductor industry as a whole are facing problem as tensions between the US and China rise and the prospect of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan grows more likely, which might thwart global chip demands and consumption as the foundry are likely to be the key for Chinese seizures in the wartime. To muddy the water, China also are currently heavily promoting their domestic semiconductor industry at this moment.

- Qatar ‘requires’ World Cup visitors to install state-sponsored app on their phones, which are “Ehteraz” and “Hayya”. Ehteraz is a Covid-19 tracking app available for iOS and Android, while Hayya match tracker and Qatar’s free metro system access is also available on the Apple App Store and Google Play. However, it is troublesome because it asks for permissions far beyond the bare minimum it needed to use, such as “read, delete, or change all content” on the user’s phone. It can override any other installed software and prevent the phone from entering sleep mode. It also can share information from the phone with virtually no restrictions. It also tracks the user’s location, can prevent the device from entering sleep mode, and can view the user’s network connections. Additional permissions include the ability to make outgoing calls and the disabling of the device’s lock screen. This analysis is according to Øyvind Vasaasen, head of security at NRK.

- Security researchers are worried about BlackLotus, a new powerful UEFI rootkit is reportedly up for sale on underground forums, offering advanced attack features that were previously available only to intelligence agencies and state-backed threat groups. It is a firmware rootkit that can bypass Windows protections to run malicious code at the lowest level of the x86 architecture protection rings, by launching it on the boot process. It can allegedly bypass many Windows security protections including Secure Boot, UAC, BitLocker, HVCI and Windows Defender, while offering the ability to load unsigned drivers. Other advanced features include a fully featured file transfer mode, and a “vulnerable signed bootloader” that cannot be invalidated without affecting hundreds of bootloader still in use today. With that, we hope that you will keep your PC safe, always check for any malware threat using your antivirus, and use your head whenever browsing the net and stumbled into any shady software.

- Russian-made Baikal BE-S1000 48-core ARM CPU appears in benchmark results and in photos. Fritzchens Fritz was able to source a BE-S1000 and shared photos of the processor on Twitter. The processor has twelve CPU clusters, each with four ARM Cortex-A75 cores, 2 MB of L2 cache, has 32 MB of L4 cache, situated in the four large areas at the processor’s centre. It also has six 72-bit memory controllers that support up to 768 GB of DDR4–3200 RAM, and has five PCIe 4.0 x16 interfaces too, as well as two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and an integrated USB 2.0 controller. It consumes around 120 W and is built on 16 nm TSMC nodes, with 607 mm² die size, almost the same size as the Nvidia’s AD102 chip in RTX 4090. Baikal Electronics initially will release the BE-S1000 in 2023. However, sanctions as a result from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have suspended mass production indefinitely.

- [Leaked] Lenovo Yoga Paper E Ink tablet leaks online on Weibo, showcasing the design and packaging of it. The launch of this product could take place in the coming days.

- [Rumor] Greymon55, a well-known hardware leaker, said that AIBs (add-in board) partner have already begun testing RDNA 3-powered graphics cards in their labs. The flagship Navi 31 GPU is reportedly about 2X faster than unspecified Navi 21 GPU in rasterization. Raytracing performance improvements are more than two times that of its previous-generation counterpart. Greymon adds that the Radeon RX 7000 series will be power-efficient due to reference board’s TBP consumption. Recent rumours suggested that AMD will continue to use the traditional three-PCIe power pin design on its high-end graphics cards and restrict the maximum wattage to 450 W.

- Google announces Android 13 Go, a stripped down, easier to upgrade Android version slated for 2023 release, since it’s first inception five years ago. With it, Google is bringing Google Play System Updates to the devices which are going to help ensure that the devices can receive important software updates outside major Android releases without any issue, without using phone storage, and without the need to wait from the phone manufacturer. In the Cinebench R23 test, single-core results, it achieved 2,352 points, reaching 6.2 GHz boost clock frequencies at 1.474V and 75ºC temperature were recorded during the overclocking. They utilized the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 APEX integrated CPU tuner, which uses artificial intelligence to assist with the level. The choice of the motherboard was due to a lack of time and detail in testing the processor at the time. That places the Cinebench R23 mark in 13th place on the HWBOT website.

- An unknown Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000 series were pictured in a Chiphell post, a Chinese tech forums. It was a monstrous graphics card design, which has TDP of 900W, which is a power hungry card to be sure. There’s more picture of it, however the poster didn’t publish the other yet.
